daedalus conservation to provide prizes at annual boss stone competition
Daedalus Conservation is delighted to be supporting Dorset’s prestigious Annual Boss Stone Competition, which is being held from 23rd to 25th May 2012 at Weymouth College’s Dorset Skills Centre in Poundbury.
Daedalus is proud to be involved in this established initiative now in its 17th year, which is staged by Weymouth College’s Masonry Department to showcase the talents of its students.
The theme for this year's Boss carvings is the 'Olympics’' and students will take up the two and a half day challenge to complete a stone boss carving - a decorative carved architectural stone work - using only hand tools.
Daedalus’ General Manager Gary Jones will be a guest on the panel of judges, who will decide on three winners. Prizes, which will be given by Daedalus, include £100 for the Overall Competition Winner, and £50 for the two runners up from Years 1 and 2.
Gary Jones explains: "We are keen to encourage the best talent as well as help in continuing with the development of traditional skills in our region. It’s great to be involved in the Annual Boss Stone Competition at Weymouth College and I am looking forward to seeing some great stone work, creativity and skill in this Olympic year.”
